On April 18, Tianjin Port officially opened a direct container liner route to South Africa, filling the gap in direct flights with South African ports. The route is operated by 12 ships on a weekly basis, and is directly linked to several major domestic ports to Durban Port in South Africa. The voyage is shortened by about 10 days compared with the past. It mainly serves export goods such as steel, building materials and automobiles, and brings faster import of South African mineral products to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, effectively reducing logistics costs and improving transportation efficiency.

On April 3, Chongqing's largest LNG single-fuel river-sea direct bulk carrier "Shengtong 2016" successfully tested in the Yunyang section of the Yangtze River, marking a major breakthrough in the construction of large green ships in Chongqing. The ship has a total length of 140.4 meters and a load of 22000 tons. It uses clean energy LNG power, which can reduce the energy consumption cost by about 15% compared with traditional oil tankers. It has both environmental protection and economic benefits. It is expected to be put into operation on the Ningbo-Jiangsu route by the end of April.
